Basic Education
Many of our target group have never been to school, or have had their education cut short owing to poverty. The illiteracy rate is high. Vialisa has therefore designed a special 6 month long educational programme for these youngsters, where they learn reading, writing and mathematic.
As well as receiving basic education, the youngsters receive personal development trainings. The training lasts 6 months and encompasses communication (verbal and non-verbal), personal hygiene,
future planning and job application techniques. The skills learnt boost self reliance and self- assurance in the participants.
Job Training (in preparation for a specific job)
Certain employment, for example working in a household or as office assistant, requires a special training focusing on specific skills, such as discipline and good communication. For these positions we provide training within private households and offices, varying in duration from 1 week to 3 months.
Vocational Training
There are various organisations that offer practical vocational training to underprivileged youngsters, where they can learn the trade of car mechanic, electrician, tailor or plumber. There are however too few training courses for the large number of underprivileged youngsters, which results in long waiting lists. With a recommendation from Vialisa, youngsters gain access to all existing training centers. Furthermore, Vialisa have arranged their own training placements in garden centers, by tailors and at a computer service company.
English Lessons
For the youngsters working for foreign employers, there is a special English course, designed to improve communication in the work environment. These youngsters receive 1_ hours leave every afternoon to follow these classes.
Education Centre Vialisa Korail
Since the May 2006 the Education Centre Vialisa has been set up, situated in a nearby slum area. The slum area is rather drab and dreary so the Education Centre classrooms have been made attractive by using cheerful, uplifting colours.
Every six month The Basic Education course, the Tailor training course and the Personal Development course for our youngsters will be held in this Education Centre. The centre can host 38 students. To assist and further stimulate our young participants, we provide lunch and at certain times a doctor is available. In the meantime we’ve taken on two additional teachers and a tailor.
Education Centre Vialisa Banani
In 2007 a second Education Centre will be opened, ‘Education Centre Vialisa Banani’.
This new centre will only provide trainings for preparations for a job in the tourism sector and small business. Youngsters will receive computer training, financial administration, presentation techniques, communication trainings and purchase and sales policies. These trainings are very intensive and will only be accessible for youngsters with a high level of motivation perseverance.
